Margaret Counihan

Committee Member

Margaret had worked from a young age and as a young mother of 3 her husband predicted that she may get a little bored. After hearing on the radio that she could learn to spin with Isabel Foster, she went along and was instantly addicted. She tried weaving but found that it was not for her. Margaret joined the Guild in 1979 and has enjoyed being a member since the Guild was at the Horticulture building. She has met very many nice people during her journey.

The Guild's aim is to bring together those who practise handweaving, spinning and allied crafts. To help and encourage them to increase their knowledge, understanding and skills by discussion, demonstration, exhibition, teaching and the provision of quality resource materials.

In the spirit of reconciliation the Handweavers and Spinners Guild of Victoria acknowledges the Traditional Custodians of Country throughout Australia and their connections to land, sea and community. We pay respect to their elders past and present and extend that respect to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people today.
